Those of you who have worked with me for any length of time will know I’m not into hype, but I have come across some information in the past couple of days that I sincerely believe you need to have.
This hasn’t percolated out yet, but because I spend so much time focusing on helping businesses with mobile website and marketing I keep up to speed with developments in this field.
Especially if it is an announcement from Google.
Here’s what was reported by SeoRoundTable.com
“Google has taken a strong stance on mobile SEO, announcing there will be demotions if your site is not mobile friendly or is misconfigured when it comes to being mobile friendly.
“Google said the demotion will only impact mobile, smartphone friendly, search results and only impact web pages that are not smartphone friendly or misconfigured when it comes to being smartphone friendly.”
What this means that if you don’t have a mobile website, expect your site to be “demoted” on Google searches done on smart phones.
Google wants smart phone users to go to sites that are designed for the smaller screens and is getting ready to penalise websites that are not mobile optimised.
Of the businesses I work with the average search volume done on mobiles is 27% (and growing every 4 months or so). You cannot afford to lose that business.
If you already have a properly configured mobile version of your website then you’re fine for now. If you haven’t then you need to take care of this now.
Trust me, I have helped websites recover from Google penalties, and it takes time and money – far better to avoid a penalty in the first place.

There are lots of good reasons to have a mobile site – find out why at this article https://buildbusinessonline.co.uk/how-to-turn-visitors-into-customers/ , but this clear indication that Google will punish your existing website has to be one of the most compelling.
